Where to Recycle

Washington and Lee University’s recycling program is a separate stream operation which means that participants must separate the recyclable materials at the collection stations. Please remember that the contents of recycling containers that are contaminated with other recyclable materials or trash will not be recycled, they must be taken to the local landfill. For a description of the materials that we recycle, see the how to recycle page.

ACADEMIC BUILDINGS

Clean mixed paper is recycled in all academic buildings. Faculty and staff can request a blue plastic desk-side can or crate measuring 20" x 24" x 13" for collection and transport of materials to recycling stations. Individuals are responsible for emptying these into larger blue collection cans located in the hallways. The regular pick up schedule for these cans is Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

"Clean mixed paper" includes computer and copier paper, hard back books, junk mail, newspapers and magazines. Staples do not need to be removed and an occasional paper clip is OK but metal or plastic spiral bound material is not. Please do not put corrugated cardboard, food containers or trash in the mixed paper bins. Many other materials are recycled on campus. For more information on how to recycle these items and more, please see how to recycle.

The following is a list recycling stations on campus and the materials accepted in addition to mixed paper:
